Face Ice Moon by macspendleton

I felt my older brother's arm rest on my shoulder.
It was Christmas and it's only one of those few times when we really bonded together. He goes to his own private business while I continue fixing things in the shop, so we really don't interact that much. Plus we quarrel over his business of stealing often.

I know most of you would be in your house that evening, but we were on a strange place. We sat on top of the construction site munching hungrily on some bread that we brought along.

"The planet is not that scary at all", his voice was muffled because of his full mouth.
"Hmm.. That reminds me..", I glanced up at the planet's menacing "glare".
Then I pulled out a small cardboard box and handed it to Reinhold.
"Uh, thank you Price!", he smiled still looking at the moon.

He opened it hurriedly to see. Excitement was all over his face. Reinhold lifted the tiny lid to get my gift and threw the box over. I watched it fall from the height we were at and by the time I looked back to his face, It was filled with confusion.

"Oh give me that!", I chuckled.
I gave him a cube. A metal cube made from scraps. It wasn't just any cube though, I pressed a side and the cube started to collapse from that side.
"WHOA! What the-"
"That's not all of it yet", I interrupted.
Images made out of light started to emerge from it depicting the war up there on the planet. Tiny winged and hovering vehicles whizzed by his face illuminating it. I've never seen him so happy about a single object he didn't stole.
"How did you do that?", his eyes widened in amazement.
"Just playing with mirrors and light", I smiled. "and maybe some dust particles"

The next moment was filled with silence. No words between both of us, only the whistling sound of the night breeze. I just stared at him. I never really saw him so happy because of some simple gift. Of all the shiny new things he brings home everyday, he was happy and contented with a rusty cube that came from me.

"Oh yes, sorry. I forgot about yours", he placed his arm behind him.
"This better not be stolen"
"Of course not. I bought it just for you"
"But how did you get past the-"
"Mario DiMarco works in unknown ways", he grinned.

Then he tossed his gift at me. I was surprised when I got it off my face. They were some new trousers, a pair of working gloves, and a tool holding belt. Just what I needed down the basement. He even handed me a shiny new toolbox to put all my stuff in.

"Okay maybe I snatched the toolbox down there a while ago", he looked down.

I did not waste a single second. I jumped right at Reinhold to hug him.

"I... I'm glad you liked it buddy", He hugged me back.
Then suddenly,
"Hey! Anyone up there?!", a light shone from below.

We packed whatever we brought up there and ran as fast as we could trying to avoid the guard.

That wasn't a typical Christmas for me and it sure wasn't the best, but it was more than what will do.

I felt bad that I did nothing for Christmas but eat and sing. These two characters are things I've been working on along with the setting and the plot. I want to make this a full story and hopefully won't get bored doing this after a while. For now I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year!
